What Do You Wish Was in the Beach Pit BBQ Storefront?

The spot has been empty for a couple of months. What's your pick for the new tenant?

What's your best idea for Aliso Viejo's newest business?

The former home to Beach Pit BBQ in Aliso Viejo is in a prime real estate location — next to the city's only Trader Joes.

The building is now empty and we want to hear your opinion for the next tenant.

Would you select another chain restaurant? A one-of-a-kind dining experience? A retail store? Unique service?

Tell us your preference in the comments below.

According to city planning, the owner of The Commons is actively looking for a tenant, but there are no other specs at this time. I'll keep you posted!

I think that is the 2nd bbq place that has not made it. I would like to see an espresso bar there. It is a nice place to sit outside and enjoy a coffee and sweet. I would love to know the rent amount and if that would be allowed because of Panera..

That's strange that two barbecue places have failed. Third time's a charm?

How about a smoothy place, like Jamba Juice? Seems like it would fit in nicely with Trader Joe's and Grower's Direct, and not compete with Panera.

We have two Smoothie places within a mile of there, Smoothie King and Juice it Up. We also have City Perk and Neighborhood cup for local coffee shops.

I would love to see a healthy place to eat, I love Native Foods, my family not so much, wish there was something out there that focussed on healthy and family friendly (Native Foods is amazingly family friendly, I have picky eaters).

Just a thought.

I agree, great post office idea. Here's another question — What other basic services do you need to leave Aliso Viejo to find?

I'm with Heather, healthy restuarant for families! In Vancouver, there were two retuarants that had small play areas for kids under 5 and healthy options for food(not vegan or vegatarien, but one was organic the other had some gluten free). They were always packed! Created SO much community!! I really miss these options.

Failing that, I'd LOVE a good Indian resturant. The closest one is 25min from me.

The problem with Beach Pit was that the food was over priced. My husband would love to see a Jimboy's Taco's which is far from healthy. I would love to see an Italiano's - from L.A. There was one in Hollywood that moved out to Glendale. I don't know if they are open anymore. They had medium priced pizza, pasta and subs. They were actually good too. Most of the food in Aliso Viejo is not good. We usually eat outside of our city which is a bummer.

I would like to see Mother’s Market & Kitchen in that spot:
http://www.mothersmarket.com/

Currently, I frequent the one in Laguna Woods and do most of my grocery shopping at Mother's. I also go there for a take-lunch and healthy snacks, but it would be much more convenient to have one right here in Aliso.

About the idea of a post office, if anything, why doesn’t Aliso Viejo seek to get an expansion of services at the substation already located at 91 Columbia?

It's a little small for a Chipotle, but that would be my first pick. My second pick would be Flame Broiler - the location is a perfect size for that.

Would like to see a Super Mex Restaurant - good, authentic Mexican food. Or, a place to have a good sit-down breakfast or lunch or light dinner.

I like the Mexican and Indian food ideas above, or a good Pho place would work too!

HEALTHY, FAMILY FRIENDLY eatery gets my vote! These types of restaurants are definitely in the minority, and should be focused on more, especially in a forward-thinking city like Aliso Viejo. Tacos are available across the parking lot, tons of chains in AV Center, and multiple pizza, italian, mexican, etc., while there is only one healthy alternative (Native Foods). Would be so awesome to have another option. Maybe the types of parents that patronize Trader Joe's, Grower's Direct, and Panera (slightly healthier options available), are not the types that would frequent a BBQ style restaurant, which may be why it failed. Perhaps these consumers would support someplace that offered them better choices for their families. Just a thought!

I agree with all the votes for *authentically* healthy cuisine - that is even a step beyond Native Foods...something like 118 Degrees, Le Pain Quotidien or another boutique-type cafe; ideally specializing in 100% organic ingredients with options for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free and raw choices. Definitely should cater to kids considering how many mommies SAH in Aliso.

A breakfast place would be nice - or a Walmart grocery store

Ooooh, I love breakfast places! GREAT idea - they would HAVE to serve breakfast burritos (and NO donuts/croissants/pastries at my kids' eye-level LOL!). But even better if it they served, like, authentically healthy ingredients like eggs from cage-free chickens and pasture-raised meats and a huge selection of organic herbal teas. I would go there a couple times/week! (I love food, but hate preparing it).

How about these ideas...California fish grill, boiling crab, or casa Bianca. All these restaurants are extremely fresh and quite good. You won't be disappointed in bringing any of these to our community.

Veggie Grill or any of the healthy food ideas listed by others above would be amazing! There are a lot of health conscious people and very few choices in South OC. It would be packed!

Can it be open until midnight and serve drinks? This is the sleepiest town for an LA transplant LOL
