Wait, Seriously? A Snail From His Kneecap?

Here are five things to keep you informed about Aliso Viejo and Orange County for Friday, Aug. 16.


  1. This item was too weird and spectacular for just one headline. An Aliso Viejo boy had a tiny sea snail hatch from his knee three weeks after skinning that knee at the coast.
  2. The Pacific Symphony performs “Pixar in Concert'' at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine. Conductor Sarah Hicks will lead the orchestra through music from such Pixar films “Up,'' “Toy Story” and “Finding Nemo.''
  3. Live music is being performed throughout the weekend at Art-a-Fair in Laguna Beach. Everything from flamenco to the blues will be on stage. Check here for a list of bands and set times.
  4. Yee-haw! Calling all cowboys, cowgirls and city slickers. San Juan Capistrano Rodeo Week 2013 moseys into town Friday and rides off into the sunset Aug. 25.
  5. The inaugural Ribs, Pigs and Watermelons Beer Festival and Pro Barbecue Competition begins at 5 p.m. Friday in Huntington Beach. The three-day event includes a kids barbecue-eating competition, a watermelon seed spitting contest and live entertainment. It’s at Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, Lot 10.
