Rod Stewart had little to prove as a rock star. He had been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame twice, once solo and once with The Faces.  He is one of the best selling artists of all time, selling more than 100 million records worldwide. The shaggy-haired singer, who started as a brash hard rocker and ventured into disco, was ready for yet another dramatic change. At 58, he was badly in need of a hit, having released several mediocre sellers in the 1990s.
It was Stewart's idea to revive songs like George and Ira Gershwin's 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' and Cole Porter's 'Every Time We Say Goodbye'. Beginning in the early 2000s, Stewart released five albums covering popular American songs from the 20th century. The five albums, which include songs from Broadway theatre, musical theatre and Hollywood musical films, have all gone platinum.
"They’ve always been a part of my life, because my mother and father used to play them when I was a kid. They got in my subconscious somewhere along the way and stayed there. ... I wanted to sing these songs before I went to my grave,” said Stewart.
Stewart’s voice lowered a halftone after his surgery for thyroid cancer, so his voice was better suited to cover the Great American Songbook tunes. “There is a lot more warmth in the upper register [of my voice] now,” according to Stewart.
Gregory Wolfe and his band will perform Stewart's "The Great American Songbook" in a 90 minute show at Clubhouse 3.

"Mr. Rock N' Roll" Brian Beirne, of KRTH 101 fame, will act as master of ceremonies for the show.

And here is some additional information about Gregory Wolfe:
Gregory Wolfe's taste in music developed at an early age, listening to crooners like Nat King Cole and Andy Williams. At the age of 19, like most young adults in Lansing, Michigan, he went to work at General Motors.
. But, in the summer of 1984, Wolfe entered himself in a tribute contest that would forever change his future. Shortly afterward, he was flown to Los Angeles by the producers of what was, at that time, the #1-rated television show in syndication, “Putt’n On The Hits.”
After his appearance on that program,  things would never be the same for Wolfe. He soon relocated to L.A. and not long after, began making a career of impersonating the great Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend, Rod Stewart. He has since taken his act world-wide, from Singapore to South Carolina, from Bangkok to Berlin; Wolfe has entertained all over the globe.Wolfe's taste in music developed at an early age, listening to crooners like Nat King Cole and Andy Williams.
