Awma Bridge Repairs Underway

Work continues to restore second traffic lane of bridge, which leads to Wood Canyon Elementary School in Aliso Viejo.

The Awma bridge which provides access from Laguna Niguel to , the trailhead of Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and South Orange County Wastewater Authority (SOCWA), was reduced to one-lane traffic in January 2011 because it could no longer handle the weight of passing cars.

Repair work has begun on bridge, including some safety improvements to the guardrails, strengthening pipeline restraints under the bridge and improved signage, according to Shaun Pelletier, assistant city engineer for the City of Aliso Viejo.

Current construction should be completed by the end of the month. At that point, control of the bridge will be passed from SOCWA to OC Parks.
