Boy Scouts to Host National Flag Day Ceremony

The ceremony will officially retire worn and damaged flags.

In honor of National Flag Day, Boy Scout Troop 700 of Aliso Viejo is scheduled to host its first official ceremony for retiring tattered American Flags this evening.

The ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. at the Orange County Fire Station 57 in Aliso Viejo.

Official flag retirement ceremonies properly destroy worn and damaged flags by burning them. According to the United States Flag Code, "The Flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferable by burning."

The public is invited to attend the ceremony and the free reception that follows.

Worn flags can be dropped off at City Hall today to be properly disposed of during the ceremony.
