Good Eggs Found at Church's Eggstravaganza

Compass Bible Church of Aliso Viejo hosted its annual Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt at Laguna Hills Community Center on Friday for thousands of seekers.

On the fields of the Laguna Hills Sports Complex, hundreds of young Easter egg hunters patiently waited behind ribbons for Compass Bible Church volunteers to shout "Ready, set, go!" When the children were released, they ran through the fields to find plastic Easter eggs filled with candy.

The Aliso Viejo church also provided several other free activities at Friday's Eggstravaganza.

"We started working on plans for the Eggstravaganza back in December," said CBC Director of Communications Linda Kavadoy. "We're expecting about 5,000 people to come today. This is a free family Easter event to introduce the community to Compass Bible Church."

More than 400 volunteers worked on the event, which included filling 16,000 plastic eggs with candy, Kavadoy said. Some volunteers had been working since Thursday to set up and watch over the bounce houses, game booths and big slide. Others served up hot cocoa and coffee. Artistic volunteers assisted with activities such as face-painting and craftmaking.

The church's other big April event is Easter at the Bren, a pair of Sunday morning services at UC Irvine's Bren Center.

The Eggstravaganza is an effective lead-in for the Bren event, Kavadoy said: "People attend the Eggstravaganza and say, 'This is the first time I've heard about you [Compass Bible Church].' Then they attend Easter at the Bren. Then they start coming to services."

Compass Bible Church is located at 150 Columbia in Aliso Viejo.
