High Winds Brings High Fire Danger
Be careful with those matches and ashes. It's going to be a blustery day.
A red-flag warning was in effect this morning in portions Orange County, raising the danger of wildfire because of high winds, low humidity and warm temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.
Northeast winds are expected to peak this morning and then decrease this afternoon, according to the weather service.
Local gusty winds to 55 mph hour are possible this morning but will decrease throughout the day, according to an alert from the neighboring city of San Juan Capistrano. Low humidity will continue through Thursday, but winds will be much weaker.
Relative humidity in the single digits and temperatures reaching the upper 70s were also forecast for today.
"A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create extreme fire (danger)," according to an NWS statement.
The Orange County Fire Authority received notification of the red-flag warning from the National Weather Service which began at midnight and will continue through 6 p.m.
