Ever wonder how El Toro, Lake Forest and other places in Orange County got their names?
If so, the Saddleback Area Historical Society invites you to its Jan. 27 meeting at 2 p.m. at Heritage Hill Historical Park, where historian Phil Brigandi, author of Orange County Place Names, A to Z, will speak on the subject.
Brigandi grew up in the city of Orange and has written more than 20 books about Orange County and Southern California history. He served as Orange County archivist for almost five years and an additional year and a half as county historical consultant.
"Over the years I’ve been a historical society volunteer, a museum curator, an archivist, a teacher, a public speaker, a historical consultant, a newspaper columnist and an author," Brigandi said. "But I always like to say I’m just a local historian."
A short business session will be held before Brigandi’s talk, then light refreshments will be served once the meeting adjourns.
Heritage Hill Historical Park is located at 25151 Serrano Road in Lake Forest, near the corner of Serrano and Lake Forest Drive, near the Ralph’s shopping center. For more information, call Marian Norris at 949-581-0822.
