Work on Phase 2 of Town Center Loop Trail Begins Aug. 1

City officials hope the enhanced pedestrian project will encourage healthy lifestyles and a "walkable community."

Work on the second phase of the city's Town Center Loop Pedestrian Enhancement Project is scheduled to begin Aug. 1.

The Town Center Loop trail, which is one of the ways the city hopes to make Aliso Viejo a "walkable community," makes an approximate 3-mile loop around Aliso Viejo's Town Center. The city hopes the trail offers the community a safe environment to exercise and easy access to amenities.

The first phase was completed in 2009 and included enhanced landscaping, signage and pedestrian crosswalks along many of the surrounding streets.

Here's what to expect with phase two, according to a city press release:

  • Phase two is 1.2 miles
  • It will complete all enhanced corner hardscape, distance markers, monuments and crosswalks for the trail.
  • The project extends from the intersection of Aliso Viejo Parkway and Pacific Park Drive south along Aliso Viejo Parkway to the intersection of Aliso Viejo Parkway and Aliso Creek Road and then north along Aliso Creek Road to the intersection of Aliso Creek Road and Pacific Park Drive.

Future phases will include seating, trash receptacles, public art, lighting and more enhancements to the landscaping.

Work on phase two is scheduled to be completed by the end of September. While most of the work will be completed along Aliso Creek Road and Aliso Viejo Parkway, there will be little impact to traffic in the area. Signs will be posted for alternative business access.

Work completed along Pacific Park Drive will result in a lane closures. Traffic delays are expected along Pacific Park Drive.
