U2 Tribute in Aliso; Climber Saves Journalist

Tuesday news and notes for Aliso Viejo residents.

Here are five things affecting Aliso Viejo for Tuesday, Aug. 5:

  1. The Orange County Small Business Development Center presents a workshop on "How to Put More Customers in Your Restaurant" at 6 p.m. in the OC Public Library’s Aliso Viejo Branch, 1 Journey.
  2. Aliso Viejo's Corent has been named a finalist in this year's High-Tech Innovation Awards.
  3. David Whiting of the Orange County Register describes how an Aliso Viejo climbing trainer saved him from a short tumble off Stoney Point:

"As I get up from my fall, I marvel how I managed to avoid a small boulder next to the pad. My climbing partner, Dennis George of Aliso Viejo, grins. He mentions that's why he pushed me on the back.

"Push? I was too busy falling to notice George's save."
  4. Joshua Tree came to Aliso Sunday to rock the house. They're a U2 tribute band. Since when did U2 start drawing tribute bands?
  5. The Falls Fire has burned 1,500 acres of the Cleveland National Forest as of midnight Tuesday morning. The Ortega Highway is closed to everyone but residents and two communities have been evacuated.
