Aliso Company Sued Over Breast Cancer Gene Test

Amrby's chief executive accuses competing biotech firm of "bullying."

An Aliso Viejo biotech company faces a lawsuit after jumping into the breast cancer gene testing market last month.

Ambry Genetics rushed to market on the heels of a landmark Supreme Court decision that genes cannot be patented, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Now the company that lost that case, Myriad Genetics of Salt Lake City, has filed a lawsuit with Ambry and another competitor based in Houston.

Amrby chief executive Charles Dunlop accused Myriad of "bullying" through the lawsuit. He said the company's control over the genetic marketplace had a chilling effect on medical progress.

Ambry says the lawsuit rests on the Supreme Court's gene patenting decision. But Myriad says they've sued to defend their specific testing methods.
