E. Coli Outbreak Prompts Trader Joe's to Recall Three Ready-to-Eat Salads

The Center for Disease Control Sunday announced that a multi-state outbreak of E. coli has been linked to two ready-to-eat salads sold at Trader Joe's stores.

Testing connected the likely source of the outbreak to Field Fresh Chopped Salad with Grilled Chicken and Mexicali Salad with Chill Lime Chicken, both sold by the specialty grocery store chain, according to the CDC website

A third salad, Trader Joe's Classic Greek Salad, also has been recalled. 

Around 26 people have been infected with this particular strain of bacteria in three states, according to the CDC.  California has had 22 of the cases, the onset of the illness ranging from Sept. 29 to Oct. 26. 

Trader Joe's, which is headquartered in Monrovia, posted the following letter on its website dated Nov. 10:

To Our Valued Customers:

We have been alerted by our supplier of the following salads, found only in the specified regions, that there is a possibility that these products, with "USE BY" dates of 10/01/13 through 11/15/13, may be contaminated with E. coli, an organism that can cause serious food-borne illness if consumed:

Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington Stores ONLY:

Trader José's Mexicali Brand Salad with Chili Lime Chicken (SKU 97216) 

Northern California & Northern Nevada (Reno & Carson City) Stores ONLY:

Trader Joe's Field Fresh Chopped Salad with Grilled Chicken (SKU 99050)
Trader Joe's Classic Greek Salad (SKU 83579)
