What makes Tribeca unique?
Tribeca Salon in Aliso Viejo offers “a little bit of New York, without the rush,” says owner Tim Telles. The salon is celebrating its fifth year in the city and Telles attributes its success to good customer service and a variety of extras. During the week, biscottis and peanut butter pretzels are served with freshly brewed Italian bean coffee. Red and white wine is served in the afternoon. On Saturdays, the salon offers bagels with cream cheese and mimosas.

“It’s all about customer service,” he said. “We have a great front desk person who welcomes everyone. We are all one big family—staff and clients. We also employ a full-time cleaning person to keep the salon looking new.”

Theme:
Tribeca’s name and décor theme—New York Loft style—came from Telles’ love of the Big Apple. His daughter, who is currently working as a hairstylist in Manhattan, took the New York photographs that hang in the Aliso Viejo salon. Telles said he's always looking to add new décor to the shop.

Tribeca beginnings:
When working to open the salon in February 2007, Telles said he thought, “Build it and they will come.”

Telles worked with his wife, Treeny, to open the salon. As soon as it opened the economy made a downturn. They stayed afloat through “hard work, a lot of marketing,” Telles said.

Hope on the side:
“The Village of Hope homeless shelter in Tustin is very close to my heart. Anybody could be homeless in this economy,” Telles said.

So Telles and his stylists volunteer their skills and time there. Four barber chairs serves the nearly 200 men, women and children who live there.

“We are very blessed to have a roof over our head so I enjoy giving back,” he said.

Hairstylists are currently needed to volunteer one day each month at the shelter salon.
