MemorialCare Hospitals Get Top Safety Rating

San Clemente and Laguna Hills facilities each get an "A" from the nonprofit Leapfrog Group.

MemorialCare Health System hospitals in O.C . — Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in  San Clemente and Laguna Hills and Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley — have been given the highest rating from a nonprofit group measuring hospital safety.

Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and large purchasers of health benefits, gave each of the facilities an "A"; hospitals nationwide were rated with an A, B, C, D or F Hospital Safety Score. Leapfrog's panel measured hospitals' overall capacity "to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors," according to a MemorialCare news release.

“Hospitals like this that earn an "A" have demonstrated their commitment to their patients and their community,” said Leah Binder, Leapfrog Group president and CEO, who looks forward to the day "when all hospitals will match this standard.”

MemorialCare was recently honored as one of  27 businesses worldwide with the Gallup Great Workplace Award. Its hospitals have also been named “high performing” by U.S. News & World Report.
