22 Teams for Sunday's Relay for Life at Grand Park

It's not too late to sign up for the 24-hour marathon to fight cancer this weekend.

Grand Park will become a track in the race against cancer Saturday and Sunday for Aliso Viejo's Relay for Life 2013.

About 100 people have signed up to raise money and walk to raise money for cancer research this year. So far $12,735 have been raised.

In terms of dollars raised, Got Hope is leading the teams. Got Hope, led by team captain Phen Cheng, has raised about half of their $4,000 pledge goal.

For the first time in five years, the city will walk this weekend, Councilman Ross Chun said. He said he has helped put a team together over the last couple of weeks that has so far raised $1,290. The city's team has raised the second-highest amount of money so far.

Chun said he got involved last year before learning that his sister-in-law was diagnosed with cancer.

"That was totally shocking to me," he said. "We all had a terrific time at the event, and it opened her eyes to all the services the American Cancer Society provides."

His relative's cancer went into remission by New Year's Eve, the councilman said.
