End Of Watch

A Day In The Life

End Of Watch centers around two Los Angeles police officers.  It is meant to be a "day in the life" spread over multiple days.  Brian Taylor played by Jake Gyllanhaal is making a video of his work as a police officer.  The movie focuses on Taylor and his partner Mike Zavalla played by Michael Pena.

You can read plenty of typical movie reviews.  All I've read have been positive.  It is a fantastic movie.

Instead, I want to convey how realistic this movie truly is. I was a law enforcement officer for 17 years.  This includes time as a Los Angeles County deputy sheriff. I've known fellow deputies and police officers who experienced or I personally experienced everything featured in this movie.

Sadly, this includes the conclusion which I won't share.  Except, to note one of my fellow deputies that I had the pleasure of working with was murdered in a manner very similar to that featured in the movie.

Nelson Yamamoto graduated the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Academy one month behind me.  We worked together following graduation.  He always had a smile.  I remember he enjoyed playing ping pong and surfing.

Here is to you Nelson.  You are still remembered.
