Taxes

Aliso Viejo Residents Pay Enough

I recently received my property tax bill and saw the value of my home had decreased slightly.  I look forward to the return of nominal demand for housing so my home's value will adjust with inflation.  Its value won't increase until the economy begins to grow.  California economic recovery has been slow to develop.

The Governor has a tax proposal that is supposed to close the gap in our state's budget.  No one has ever shown me an instance where an increase in taxes has spurred job creation and increased the economy.  California jobs continue to migrate to states with low tax rates.  It isn't hard to figure out why.

We in Aliso Viejo pay our fair share of taxes and assessments.  We pay federal and state taxes, sales taxes to include an extra portion dedicated to transportation, and mello roos.

Most of us take the toll road from time to time.  That another chunk of change.  There was a time when the building of freeways was a government function and we all got to drive them since they were paid for with taxes on gasoline.  I guess I'm getting nostalgic.  At least we got to keep the tax on gas.

Yet the call for more taxes never ceases.  The notion of a parcel tax to fund our schools has once again raised its head.  I expect this to become an issue this election season as Aliso Viejo voters go to the polls and vote for their representative on the school board.
