Brush Fire Scorches Aliso Viejo

The creekside blaze was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters battled a 1-acre brush fire in Aliso Viejo on Friday.

Orange County Fire Authority crews were alerted to the blaze just before 4 p.m. at Alicia Parkway and Pacific Park Drive.

The fire is burning alongside a creek, OCFA Capt. Marc Stone told City News Service.

Firefighters evacuated a baseball diamond and soccer fields nearby because of the smoke, Stone said, but the fire is "not a threat to any homes or structures."

"The fire is basically under control," Stone said just before 5 p.m. "It's a heavy bamboo area, so we have a lot of hand work to do."
