Cops Patrolling for Drunk, Drugged Drivers Friday Night

Drivers in Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills and Laguna Woods will be carefully watched for signs of intoxication Friday night.

Orange County sheriff's deputies will be out in force Friday night from 7 p.m. until 3 a.m. Saturday looking for impaired drivers in Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills and Laguna Woods.

It's called a DUI Saturation Patrol. Deputies trained in identifying drunk and drugged drivers will team up in problem areas known for collisions and DUI arrests, sheriff's spokeswoan Gail Krause said.

The hope is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by impaired driving.

These roving patrols are funded through a federal grant.
