Drunk Driving Patrols Start This Weekend

Aliso Viejo and other South County cities will be targeted for drunk driving enforcement from Friday through Sept. 2.

It's part of "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," a national campaign supported by national advertising through Labor Day.

Expect California Highway Patrol and local sheriff's deputies to be out in force for the campaign. Plans are in place for DUI/driver's license checkpoints, a multi-agency strike team, roving DUI saturation patrols, DUI warrant/probation sweeps and DUI court stings targeting suspended drivers who were ordered by the judge not to drive.

"Every year, about one third of all motor vehicle traffic deaths involve one or more drunk drivers or motorcycle operators," said Deputy Wayne Howard of the Orange County Sheriff's Department Traffic Bureau.
