Injury Crash Prompts Firefighters to Warn Drivers to Slow Down

A collision seriously injured a 23-year-old motorcyclist Monday.

A collision that seriously injured a 23-year-old motorcyclist today prompted a call from Orange County firefighters to urge riders to slow down.

The victim was riding with four or five other motorcyclists about 12:45 p.m. when he collided with a van at 30502 Silverado Canyon Road, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana in serious condition, with a head injury and fractures to both arms and a leg, Concialdi said.

It's not clear what caused the crash or if the rider was exceeding the speed limit, but today's collision and a rash of others in the area prompted a warning from firefighters, Concialdi said.

"We've had some significant accidents recently on Silverado Canyon Road, Ortega Highway and Santiago Canyon Road," Concialdi said. "We're just asking motorcyclists to slow down ... All of those are well-traveled roads and it's dangerous."
