Laguna Hills Cyclist ID'ed as Victim in Fatal Crash

Brian Winfrey, 47, was struck by an SUV in Garden Grove on Monday night.

A 47-year-old Laguna Hills man has been identified as the bicyclist who died Monday after being hit by an SUV in Garden Grove.

Brian Winfrey was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center shortly before 8 p.m. Monday, about an hour after the crash on Euclid Street near Wakefield Avenue, according to the Orange County coroner's office.

Bach Truong, 48, of Huntington Beach was driving a sport utility vehicle south in the No. 3 lane on Euclid when she struck the bicyclist, who was wearing a yellow reflective vest, Garden Grove police Lt. Jeff Nightengale told City News Service.

Investigators were uncertain which direction the bicyclist was traveling, but believe he was in the right shoulder when hit, Nightengale said, adding that Winfrey carried no identification.

Truong remained at the scene and spoke with investigators following the crash, Nightengale said.
