Longtime Sheriff Spokesman Retiring

Jim Amormino has been the Orange County Sheriff's Department's media contact for years, and has spent 42 years total working for LAPD and the OCSD.

Earlier this month, the longtime public information officer for the Orange County Sheriff's Department announced his retirement from the force.

He posted the following on his Facebook page June 14:

Well after 42 years working for two of the greatest law enforcement agencies, LAPD and The Orange County Sheriff's Deprtment, the time has come to finally retire. I have made great friends in both law enforcement and the media that will last a lifetime. I will be on vacation until my retirement date which is July 1st. Thank all of you for the great support.

Amormino has been there to disperse information at hundreds of crime scenes, SWAT actions and other places of mayhem. He has also been responsible for all sorts of other department announcements in Orange County over the years.
OCSD Public Relations Manager Gail Krause said the department plans to recruit a replacement for Amormino at the lieutenant level in coming months.
