Suspected Drunk Driver Flees Cops, Crashes

The man remains in custody on $25,000 bond as of Friday morning.

An Aliso Viejo man was in jail Friday morning after allegedly driving drunk and leading Orange County sheriff's deputies on a short chase in Dana Point on Thursday morning.

Deputies attempted to pull over Ashanti Ceyshen Rand, 21, a student, as he was allegedly speeding on Pacific Coast Highway in Dana Point at 2:08 a.m. Thursday, said Lt. Jim England of the OCSD.

According to reports, Rand failed to yield to police and ran a red light at the intersection of PCH and Selva Road, heading east on Selva at high speed. According to the dispatch log, dispatchers in the meantime sent units to Rand's Aliso Viejo address.

They quickly called off the Aliso Viejo cars, however, after Rand allegedly slammed into a parked motor home near the intersection of Selva and Street of the Golden Lantern, where they arrested him.

Central Men's Jail was holding Rand on $25,000 bond, according to jail records. He was scheduled for arraignment Friday.
