Aliso Council OKs Budget Update, Honors Soccer Players

New budget figures show a "net positive" gain of $193,320, according to City Staff. Officials also recognized the Aliso Niguel Wolverines Girls Soccer for winning the Aliso Cup and the Mater Dei Cup.

If Aliso Viejo wanted to give every resident in the city four bucks, with the extra money they found over the past six months, they could do it.

The Aliso Viejo budget saw a “net positive” gain of $193,320, according to city staff, and, if you crunch the numbers from the latest census data () that comes to $4.04 per person.

Not that the city would or should give it out as a gift, but it’s interesting to think about.

“In fact, based on our refinements both from an expenditures standpoint and an appropriation standpoint, I think we’re exceeding our projections,” Pulone said.

The city has a general fund balance of $24,067,992, and $8.89 million of that is unassigned reserves.

The city council approved the budget in June of last year.

In addition to a net positive gain of $193,320, the new budget also increases grants to community groups to $25,000.

“There’s nothing bad you can say about our budget, mid-year or end of the year,” said . “We always seem to find more money than we originally anticipated.”

“I think we have to be the envy of a lot of other cities,” Garcia said.
