AVCA Considers Kid Summer Camp

Aliso Viejo Community Association board of directors reviews proposed recreational programs.

Next year, Aliso Viejo could welcome a new set of park recreation programs.

The Aliso Viejo Community Association began a discussion with Premier Recreation Services during their Monday board meeting to bring a 10-week summer camp and after school program to Aliso Viejo. Premier Recreation, which organizes the swim programs at the Aquatic Center, runs similar recreational programs for the Emerald Bay Community Association in Laguna Beach.

The 10-week summer camp includes a variety of field trips and activities like paddleboard, surf lessons and tae kwon do.

AVCA will continue the discussion in preparation of a 2013 start date.

OTHER BUSINESS

—A request for a permanent restroom at Westridge Park was denied at this time. A request, which was presented to the City of Aliso Viejo, was passed on to AVCA for consideration. AVCA decided to wait until there was more interest in the addition  of a restroom because of the high cost (approximately $230,000) and the variety of determining factors like potable water accessibility, the need of nearby electricity, crime prevention evaluations, etc.

—AVCA approved the proposal from Dave Bang & Associates to install six fitness stations around the perimeter of Ridgecrest Park. The proposed cost will not exceed $9,564.78, although $11,033.53 is available for the project.
