City Retires Worn American Flags

Residents were encouraged to mend, clean or properly destroy their tattered and torn flags to keep them to code.

Approximately 55 people attended the second annual flag retirement ceremony Thursday at the Aliso Viejo Fire Station.

Prior to the ceremony residents were asked to bring in their tattered, faded and torn American flags. According to U.S. Flag Code worn American flags should be cleaned, mended or “destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."

Boy Scout Troop 700 performed the proper disposal of the non-serviceable flags.
