Fast Facts: Breakdown of Aliso's $25 Million Budget

Aliso Viejo approved its $25 million budget for the next fiscal year Wednesday night. The city expects to fund new programs and staff increases through an expected rise in property tax and sales tax, Aliso Viejo's two main sources of revenue.

Here are some fast facts about the new fiscal budget:

Aliso Viejo expects to receive $13.3 million in taxes. Almost half of that is expected to come from property tax.

New programs and staffing changes approved include: 

  • Twilight Camp $3,250
  • Summer Camp at AV Ranch $17,585
  • Senior Mobility Program $4,415
  • Motorcycle Deputy ($222,800-full year) $184,912
  • Development of Local Coastal Plan $75,000
  • Financial Services Reorganization $24,250
  • Renovation of Handball Court Area $50,000
  • Additional funding of Community Grants $39,745
Because of a growing population, Aliso Viejo will be required to be an additional $28,000 for dog and cat sheltering from Mission Viejo Animal Services. 

The city will retain its AA+ bond rating, according to the staff report. This is the second-highest bond rating available, meaning the city's bonds are "judged to be of high quality and are subject to very low credit risk," according to moodys.com
