Oak Tree Occupies Community Board Meeting

Approximately 30 minutes of the monthly Aliso Viejo Community Association board meeting was spent addressing a resident's concern about their home's tree obstructed view.

The issue was first addressed during January's AVCA meeting, when a resident expressed his concern and dislike of an oak tree on his property. He wasn't satisfied with AVCA's communication on the subject and requested further action from the board.

After a comment, which the AVCA board worried could be a threat of litigation, they decided to revisit the complaint.

Ross Chun, AVCA President, said the board had already addressed the concern when they sent a Master Architectural Committee member to inspect the tree. Fire department standards were also met on the property.

The resident still wants AVCA to pay for the removal of the tree. Typically the association only pays for a removal when a tree is diseased or poses a threat to the property.

The original MAC inspection found neither of these problems.

Another inspection from a MAC volunteer will be scheduled soon to satisfy the resident's request.

Other business:

The AVCA board is still looking into the plans for Aliso Viejo's first dog park. A walk through of the proposed location, Aliso Canyon Community Park, will take place in April.

Prior to the walk through, AVCA board members and volunteers from the Parks and Landscape Committee will evaluate plans that were drafted five years ago when the dog park was seriously being considered.

The original plan for the park was much greater and included nature trails, the dog park and a parking lot to accommodate visitors. The board will look at the dog park portion of the plan to see if it can hold up on its own.

Public input is encouraged in the creation of the dog park.
