Website That Gives Back to the Community Approved by City Council

The Aliso Viejo Exchange online program will serve as the central hub for community services, public services and volunteer programs for groups and individuals to share.

The Aliso Viejo City Council recently approved a contract with We the Creative, a marketing company, to design, develop and maintain a new program called the Aliso Viejo Exchange.

The program is a first-of-its-kind one-stop, online community service, public service and volunteer program that will serve as the central hub for community, public service and volunteer opportunities.

The Aliso Viejo Exchange, or "AVX," will serve as an online clearinghouse for individuals and groups looking for community service, public service and volunteer opportunities in Aliso Viejo. AVX will also enable organizations and businesses throughout the city to promote their volunteer opportunities.

Its motto is "Giving back to the community that gives us so much."

The city anticipates the AVX website program will be launched in approximately 60 to 90 days. The project is expected to coast $41,500, according to a city report.

The City Council approved the proposal for the website in March, after receiving seven offers with proposal costs ranging up to $96,172, according to the report. We the Creative used its technical experience to demonstrate “the most creative and innovative marketing approaches to the project," the report stated.

The City Council also appointed Council Member Phil Tsunoda, who originally came up with the AVX concept, to work with the vendor and city staff on the implementation of AVX.

Several businesses and organizations already have committed to support AVX, including the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), the city of Aliso Viejo, the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the Aliso Viejo Chamber of Commerce, Savannah's Organic Ranch, the Boys and Girls Club of Capistrano Valley, and the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), as well as several schools and churches.

AVX is expected to match community service, public service and volunteer-interested parties with organizations based on interests, needs and qualifications, according to the press release. Some of those services could include tutoring, participating in clean-up projects, providing assistance to the elderly or volunteering for civic activities in town,
