Aliso Viejo-Based Eco-Stride Presents Earth Day Festival

Savannah's Organic Ranch and other organizations partnered with Newhart Middle School to bring sustainable education to students for Earth Day.

Aliso Viejo-based Eco-Stride presented the Earth Day Festival Friday in Mission Viejo.

In partnership with , Surfrider Foundation, The Air Quality Management District, Whole Foods Market, Cox Communications and Soka University, Eco-Stride worked for three months planning the event with the parents and teachers of the school.

“We were proud to work with organizations so focused on education and environmental preservation. The City of Mission Viejo participated with their ‘Environmental Jeopardy’ booth that added some fun to the learning experience,” said Ross Chun, CEO, Eco-Stride, LLC.

Many of the participating organizations will continue working with the school throughout the year to bring project-based learning programs to the classroom—part of the school's STEAM pilot program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math).

Newhart Middle School has been selected as the ninth school to receive an organic garden from Savannah's Organic Ranch. Construction should begin late summer. Joe Sachen, co-founder of the organization and father of Savannah Sachen, the little girl who inspired their movements toward healthy organic lifestyles, was on-hand to discuss the future garden.

Lynn Hatton, Capistrano Unified School District Board Trustee and Gary Pritchard, CUSD Board President joined the event, helping at various booths.
