ANHS Dance Team Seeks Funds

Donations are needed before the start of the school year.

New rules at  that for their children's after-school activities may keep Aliso Niguel High School's dance team from performing this year.

"The biggest change is that all programs at public high schools must now function only on donations and fundraisers," team adviser Ann-Marie Desiano said in an e-mail interview. "We have set goals that must be reached or the dance team will not be able continue."

Desiano said that in all the years she has coached the ANHS dance team, its livelihood has never been in jeopardy.

"I have been a part of the dance team world for 20 years," she said. "It would be devastating to see the program end due to finances. I believe if we can get through this first year, it will be easier in the future because we will have an idea how important it is to fundraiser year long."

Booster president Michelle Maggi said the team's parent boosters "are doing everything they can to meet our financial goals by Sept. 1. If we don't, we won't have a team."

The next fundraiser will be Aug. 7 at the Aliso Viejo Community Association Summer Concert in Grand Park. The girls will sell feathers and tinsel for women's hair.

"The girls have so much fun working and putting in feathers," said Maggi. "We are also continuing our community service projects by having a beach cleanup day in August."
