Architect: $13.7 Mil Needed for Don Juan Avila

Of the $822 million needed across Capistrano Unified, here is Don Juan Avila's share.

The two schools that share a campus have a combined total need of more than $13.7 million in modernized and new facilities, according to Capistrano Unified School District’s architects.

Of that $3 million would be used to replace half the portables on campus with permanent buildings, which serves elementary and middle school students. Also included in the total is $1.7 million in repairs and routine maintenance the district has put off in recent years, including upgrades to the fire alarm, phone system, new floor covering and paving.

The report was created in 2009 and has recently been updated for 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.

For Don Juan, the updated total also includes $1.4 million to buy up-to-date technology for students.
