CUSD Recognizes Former AVCA President for Work with STEAM Program

The pilot program, which begins in Mission Viejo this fall, looks to bring project-based learning to the district.

Aliso Viejo resident Ross Chun, CEO and founder of Eco-Stride, was honored by the Wednesday for his efforts with the STEAM pilot program at Newhart Middle School in Mission Viejo.

The STEAM Program aims to bring project-based learning, which focuses on science, technology, engineering, art and math to students. The program is scheduled to begin at the Mission Viejo school this fall.

“This is a tremendous honor, because I know the school district has so many important things in front of them right now, and I am extremely flattered that they would take the time to recognize me for the work I’ve been doing,” Chun said.

Chun has been working with CUSD President Gary Pritchard and CUSD Trustee Lynn Hatton as well as corporate and community partners, like Savannah’s Organic Ranch, to organize new experiences with an educational focus for students across the district.

Since his work with Newhart, Chun said, he has been approached by other schools that are interested in beginning similar project-based learning STEAM programs.
