Students Raise Funds to Feed 91 South County Outreach Families

Canyon Vista Elementary School students hold bake sale to support of South County Outreach.

Canyon Vista Elementary School students, led by the school's Peer Assisted Leaders program, raised $610.84 for South County Outreach during Friday's bake sale.

Andi Doddridge, a South County Outreach volunteer coordinator, said just $6.72 is enough to pay for the meals of a family of four for five days.

"It was due to the efforts of all the PAL students of fourth and fifth grade who made posters, asked their parents to contribute either baked goods or canned goods and encouraged their fellow students to help those less fortunate," said Joanie Triestman, PAL parent advisor.

Triestman gave specific examples of how students worked hard to raise the money:

  • Kaitlyn Vetica sold 15 "End Hunger, Feed Hope" bracelets to her dance troupe.
  • Carter Tangard collected food from his soccer team and neighborhood.
  • Each morning before school started, Riley Chahine, Alex Triestman, Madeline Purzycki, Parker Starnes and Abby Robinson held signs at the drop off line to reminded parents to donate food as they dropped off students.

The CVES Crocs Against Hunger drive filled 11 bins with food, making it the most successful food drive to date for the school.

"Thanks to all the fourth and fifth grade students of PAL," Triestman said.
