'Hope Springs' is a cute and delightful movie!

A movie review of of the new romantic comedy 'Hope Springs,' starring Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones.

'Hope Springs' is the new date movie that’s bound to be enjoyed by audiences and will have people bouncing out of theaters with “aww’s” and giggles.

The story revolves around a married couple in their 60s, whose lives have become mundane and almost loveless. Kate, played by Meryl Streep has grown tired of the boring routine that her marriage has become, and while feeling this way decides to take action. She enrolls her husband Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones) and herself into couples’ therapy in a small quaint town in Maine. Here they meet their persistent counselor, Dr. Bernie Feld portrayed by Steve Carell.

The story then moves forward with some cute scenes as well as some scenes that must have been as awkward and funny for the actors to film as they are for us to watch! Their counselor really begins to emphasize the focus they need to keep on rekindling the physical aspect of their marriage.

Being the seasoned actors that Streep and Jones are, the audience would expect nothing short of a great performance, and this is exactly what they get. Streep having recently done a film like ‘Iron Lady’ adapts to the character of a disappointed housewife. She does a phenomenal job at showing how she feels through her facial expressions since her character rarely voices what is going on in her heart. Tommy Lee Jones does a splendid job at portraying a grumpy man on the verge of retirement who has the same breakfast of bacon and eggs every morning and falls asleep in front of the TV every night while watching ESPN.

The pace of the film is very steady and the well-written dialogues keep us highly entertained from beginning to end. The issues this couple is struggling with are universal and will be relatable to a portion of the audience. It also shines light on topics that couples of this age range may feel uncomfortable or even embarrassed talking about. However it does a wonderful job at getting a strong message across in a very sweet manner. We feel as if Kate and Arnold are the couple next door and begin to cheer for them to overcome this phase in their lives.
