Aliso Lacrosse Comes Up Short Against Top Notch Team

Aliso Niguel Men's Lacrosse Hangs with the Elite Great Oak Wolfpack.

Aliso Niguel Lacrosse lost to the Great Oak Wolfpack 8-4 at Wolverine Stadium Tuesday night.

The Wolfpack has 14 returning seniors including All American Midfielder Dakota Rohlin. They have dominated their opponents this year from the Inland Empire, Los Angeles and Orange County. Tuesday night was no exception, but the Wlverines put up a fight.

The Aliso defense stepped up early in the game and held off the talented Great Oak offense. About four minutes into the game Wolfpack Attackman Cameron Luna fed Dakota Rohlin for an easy goal to jump to an early lead.  Rohlin went on to score two more times in the first quarter.  Michael Traub put in a goal for the Wolverines and they finished the first quarter down 4-1.

Wolverine Midfielder Connor Reed picked up one of his many ground balls and passed it to Attackman Nolan Werner for a quick goal to start the second quarter. The second quarter included many big hits, some of which were legal and some were not.  The officials were having a tough time keeping control of the players.  Rohlin put in two more goals in the quarter along with a goal from Midfielder Justin Harvey and the Wolfpack went into the half with a 7-2 lead.

Aliso came out firing in the second half and Michael Traub fed Ryan Dale for a goal to narrow the Great Oak lead.  Great Oak Goalie Evan Powell and Aliso Goalie Firas Abdeen shut down the offenses and there was no more scoring for either team the rest of the quarter.

Ryan Dale fed Traub for another goal and gave the Wolverines and their fans some hope.  After eight minutes of numerous big hits and penalties, Wolfpack Attackman JD Evangelista put in a goal to seal the deal and give Great Oak an 8-4 victory.

Aliso Niguel has been a victim of a tough schedule this season.  They have played Beckman, Dana Hills and Laguna Hills who have all been in the top 10 this season.  Great Oak beat two of those three teams and is one of the most dominant teams in Southern California.  Despite this tough schedule the Wolverines still have playoff hopes.

Great Oak (13-1) will play Esparanza High School on Friday night.  Aliso Niguel (5-8, 2-3) will host the Capo Valley Cougars at Wolverine Stadium at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
