At least 10 Aliso Viejo Runners in Boston Marathon, Site of Deadly Explosions

Eight of the locals reportedly finished the race before the blasts.

At least 10 Aliso Viejo runners competed in the Boston Marathon on Monday,  with most finishing before explosions killed three and injured scores near the finish line.

Dozens of Orange County residents took part in the race, including Laguna Beach's John Loftus, who won the age 54-59 division. Most of the Orange County runners finished the race before the explosions, according to a race website. There was no immediate word on whether any were injured by the explosion.

Closer to home, the Orange County Sheriff's Department promised to step up patrols "at local sporting/entertainment venues and other large gathering places."

On the Boston Marathon Facebook page, race officials said, "There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today's Boston Marathon. We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened."

Several gruesome photos have surfaced on Twitter from reporters and runners who said they were at the scene, some appearing to show individuals missing limbs and blood splattered across the sidewalk.

According to the Boston Athletic Association site, eight Aliso Viejo entrants finished before the blasts and two did not finish:

  • Julie Vuksic, age 36: 3 hours, 52 minutes, 08 seconds
  • Ted Williamson, age 55, : 3 hours, 32 minutes, 52 seconds
  • Thomas Zaide, age 35: 3 hours, 57 minutes, 32 seconds
  • Jeff Nunnenkamp, age 33: 3 hours, 47 minutes, 16 seconds
  • Sarah Moore, age 30, : 3 hours, 26 minutes, 46 seconds
  • Shelia McDaniel, age 35: 3 hours, 47 minutes, 25 seconds
  • Kate Leclerc, age 56: 3 hours, 55 minutes, 51 seconds
  • Brad Heath, age 49, : 3 hours, 22 minutes, 27 seconds
  • John Henry Downing did not record a finish time
  • Sandra Manzano-Straehle did not record a finish time

Correction: An earlier version of this story listed the wrong age for Brad Heath. He is 49.
