UPDATE: Cal Suspends Local Water Polo Player

Sophomore Nick Santala, a JSerra grad from Aliso Viejo, was one of five people removed from the men's water polo team at UC Berkeley.

An athlete from Aliso Viejo was one of five men suspended by UC Berkeley's water polo squad for violating the team’s code of conduct, according to a news report.

Nick Santala, 20, a sophomore who graduated from JSerra Catholic High School, was kicked off the team for an indefinite period, according to the Daily Californian.

“We had a code of conduct problem,” Coach Kirk Everist told the paper. “We had a number of players that gave me no choice but to remove them from the team.”

Everist said the conduct code isn't a signed document but is something all the players know about. Berkeley officials declined to reveal the nature of the code violation.

The other players were senior goalie Justin Parsons of San Diego; sophomore attacker Max Bergeson, a Corona del Mar High grad; junior attacker Perry Short of Australia; and junior attacker Tommy Gilfillan of Pasadena.
