Aliso Niguel girl’s lacrosse earned an impressive 11-8 win over Mission Viejo Tuesday night at Wolverine Stadium to advance to the quarterfinals.
The Diablos jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when midfielder Mikaela Berger picked off an errant pass and scored to put the Diablos ahead. A minute later Sam Leyds scored to increase the Mission lead to two before Wolverine captain Emily Elkins fed her sister Molly for a goal to put Aliso Viejo on the board.

McKenna Hayes tied the game before the Wolverines put in two more goals to lead, 4-2. Berger then went downfield and scored with 38 seconds remaining in the half to narrow the lead. Aliso’s Madison Montague and Leyds traded goals, ending the half with the Wolverines ahead, 6-4.
The second half consisted of many penalties. Kendra Ziegler opened with a goal for the Wolverines to give them some breathing room. McKenna Hayes then scored twice within minutes to extend the Wolverine lead to five.

The Aliso Niguel defense in front of goalie Gigya Hollyday played well to hold the Diablos to four second-half goals. She finished with five saves.
Today, Aliso Niguel will travel to Los Alamitos to play the top-seeded Griffins at Laurel Park. Game time is 4:30 p.m. Los Alamitos, which is ranked No. 9 in the nation, defeated Aliso Niguel 18-8 two weeks ago in a league game.
