Aliso Viejo trained Ashley Wagner may be headed to the Sochi Olympics despite a difficult skate and a fourth place finish at the US Figure Skating Olympic trials in Boston on Saturday, according to one report.
In a story headlined “Ashley Wagner has earned U.S. spot for Sochi” USA Today reports she has made the team citing sources familiar with the selection process.
The Washington Post also reported her selection as a certainty.
The New York Times reported that Wagner, clearly one of the most dependable skaters, “cratered in her free skate to music from ‘Romeo and Juliet.’ She fell on her opening triple-flip, triple-toe loop combination jump, and grew slow and tentative.”
Wagner is a two-time U.S. National Champion from 2012 and 2013, 2012 Four Continents Champion, a two-time U.S. bronze medalist, and two-time Junior World bronze medalist. For more information on Wagner check her website.
The team members will be announced on today (Jan. 12), according to reports.
