Soccer Regionals: Aliso Girls Have A Lousy Field Trip

Girls' Soccer: Three of the top four seeded teams in the division lose, including the Wolverines.

Even though it was the second-seeded team in the Southern California Division I Regional Championships, Aliso Niguel had to play its first round game on the road.

And it was a long trip home.

The Wolverines ventured to San Diego to play Westview and was beaten, 2-0. Now, the team ranked No. 20 in the nation, as ranked by Maxpreps, is done. Kaput. History.

Westview went into the Tuesday match ranked No. 47 in the state, but it then tagged the higher-ranked Wolverines for their second loss in a row.

Coincidentally, Westview is also called the Wolverines, and they possessed a little more bite.

Aliso had gone 10 consecutive games without a loss prior to losing the Division 2 championship to West Hills Chaminade on Friday, but a 3-1 setback in that match meant a first-round road playoff game against a division champion.

Westview scored once in each half, and Andrea Leano's seven saves kept Aliso off the scoreboard.

Riley Sims had four saves for Aliso (16-3-6).

Westview (15-10-2) will now play third-seeded Chula Vista Eastlake (16-2-6), which scored a 1-0 victory over Whittier La Serna.

Three of the top four seeded teams in the division lost first-round hom games.
