Park Pilates Feeds Families

Aliso Viejo's first Pilates in the park event collects canned good for local families in need.

The holidays are here, and with it, the spirit of giving.

Aliso Viejo's first Pilates in the Park was held Saturday in Grand Park. Guests were encouraged to bring "Thanksgiving themed" canned good in return for the free class.

Cory Rojo, Alina Fisher, Jen Montgomery and Sarah Noe, from The Pilates Shoppe in Aliso Viejo wanted to give back to the community with free one-hour session.

“With the holidays coming up, we thought it was a great time to do this” said Noe said.

Approximately 27 participants, including a couple children, enjoyed the stretching and toning exercise.

"You guys look great,” Rojo said to boost energy and spirits of the attendees, who showed no signs of tiredness.

“I have never done pilates, [it was] a very good workout,” said Shannon Hall who brought her daughter Sidney along.

Participants filled four medium-sized buckets with their donations.

The food collected will benefit South Orange County Outreach, a non-profit organization that helps low-income families and families in crisis. Rojo said they chose the organization for its local ties and to provide needed Thanksgiving food for many families.

A raffle completed the event. Kelly Crane and Lisa Pearce were some of the winners that took home hoody t-shirts and a ring of fire for pilates. The event will be held again once a month beginning April 1, at 10 a.m.
