Savannah's Organic Ranch Builds Its Largest Garden

The Sage Hill School garden and 'mini ranch' is the eighth community garden project for Savannah's Organic Ranch.

Members of Savannah’s Organic Ranch spent the last two weekends with volunteers at in Newport Beach building the nonprofit’s eighth organic garden.

Lisa and Joe Sachen began the foundation in memory of their daughter Savannah, who lost her battle with cancer when she was 8 years old. It was Savannah’s dream to have her own organic ranch—a place where children and their families could come to learn the importance of healthy eating.

As plans continue to develop, the Sachens are keeping their promise to build their daughter a ranch. Delegates will meet for the third time tonight for a vote to either approve or deny the Aliso Viejo Community Association's recommendation to lease land to Savannah’s Organic Ranch.

But while plans for the dream blossom and delegates discuss the issue, the foundation continues its mission—spreading knowledge about organic farming and fighting pediatric cancer.

The Sage Hill project is the foundation’s largest garden yet. According to Joe Sachen, next door to the usual organic garden will be a “mini-ranch,” with many new features, including an orchard.
