Community Shows Favor For Organic Farm

Savannah's Organic Ranch seeks more support from community members before breaking ground.

Aiming to reach a two-thirds majority vote in order to approve the land lease for , the Aliso Viejo Community Association held a fifth delegate meeting, Monday to try and gain more votes.

The project, which will serve as a community garden, organic farm and educational center, is planned for a 24-acre parcel of land near Wood Canyon.

While votes have mostly been in favor for the garden, it has been inching its way to the required vote count of just over 10,790 votes.  Monday’s meeting, however, was a plus for those in favor—gaining an additional 1,104 votes with none opposing the measure.  This leaves another 1,587 votes before AVCA can approve the land lease and Savannah's Organic Ranch can officially break ground on the project.

"The momentum is there and we feel really good about the next vote which is also the same night as the General Election so it should be good turn out, but we need the delegates or the president of the Homeowners Association to please vote if they have not done so already," said Joe Sachen, Savannah's Organic Ranch president, in an email interview.

AVCA will host the next vote on June 20.
