Date Selected for Savannah's Organic Ranch Vote

Delegates will meet at City Hall to vote on the land lease for Savannah's Ranch.

Delegates will meet March 14 and vote to either approve or deny the Aliso Viejo Community Association's recommendation to lease land to Savannah's Organic Ranch.

Delegates met Feb. 17, but they did not meet the quorum requirement. No vote took place, but delegates were invited to ask questions to learn more about the project. According to AVCA President Ross Chun, in an effort to gather more delegates, the March vote will take place before the regular monthly AVCA board meeting.

Savannah Sachen lost her battle with cancer in 2007 when she was 8 years old. While undergoing cancer treatments, she developed an interest in organic farming and dreamed of one day owning her own ranch. Her parents, Joe and Lisa Sachen, promised to get their daughter her ranch and are hoping this vote will bring them a step closer to granting Savannah's wish.

Savannah's Organic Ranch will be a place where children and their families can come to learn about healthy living and organic farming. Visitors will be able to grow their own food, learn how to cook it and discover the advantages of organics.

Joe Sachen encourages residents who support this project to contact their delegate representatives or board president and encourage them to attend and vote.

"I am cautiously optimistic. We need the delegates to show up, and we need them to vote yes. There is a lot of support we just need it all to come together on that one night," he said.

Delegate registration begins at 6 p.m. on March 14 in City Hall.
