A Moment of Silence for 9/11

The Orange County Fire Authority pays tribute to those lost in the 2001 attacks.

Members of the Orange County Fire Authority around the county stood at attention and saluted the flag in remembrance of those lost during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

Nearly 75 people attended Sunday's ceremony to honor the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

"During the attacks I was a task leader in the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR). When I saw the first plane hit I thought it was an accident," said Division Chief Ed Fleming. "When the second one hit I knew it wasn't an accident anymore. We thought we would be dispatched to New York City but we were told to stay on the West Coast just in case something happened here."

Also attending the ceremony was Mayor Carmen Cave.

"The city was just incorporated and I was on my way to work," she said. "Then when I saw the first plane hit it just didn't seem real to me. After the second one hit I knew it wasn't a coincidence."
