Senior Driver Has Seizure, Flips Car

An elderly man in a green sedan struck another car and wrecked his own vehicle Monday.

An elderly man is lucky to be alive today after suffering a diabetic seizure that led to a dramatic crash on Aliso Viejo Parkway/Wolverine Way.

The seizure caused the 76-year-old man to run a stoplight, hit a car, strike a curb and flip his vehicle, according to police reports.

Reports state the man was driving down Aliso Viejo Parkway past the Aliso Creek Road intersection before flipping at 12:20 p.m. on Wolverine Way, which is the street Aliso Viejo Parkway becomes as it peters out.

Lt. Roland Chacon of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said the man hit a Mercedes Benz at Enterprise several intersections before the wreck. He continued on, narrowly missing a large work truck with a crane parked at Sandcastle before he struck the center divider and flipped on Wolverine.

No one was injured in the wreck, though paramedics took the driver to Mission Hospital for treatment for his diabetic attack.
