The Orange County Sanitation District is planning to raise its yearly rate $70 over the next eight years, the Orange County Register is reporting.
But it doesn't look like it will be unanimous." I’m going to be voting against it," O.C. Supervisor Janet Nguyen, one of 25 members of the board, said of the rate increase that would start in July 2013. "I don’t think we should place more burden on families.”
The district says the rate hike is to cover inflation of cost of chemicals, fuel and hauling of biosolids.
Ratepayers are being notified by mail of the proposal, and the item will be taken up by the board Feb. 27. There will be a public hearing on the matter March 27.
