Officials Welcome Incoming Mayor, Honor Outgoing Mayor

City officials will officially welcome the new mayor Phil Tsunoda on Jan. 8, the first council meeting of 2014.

Aliso Viejo city officials are preparing to officially welcome one new mayor and honor its’ previous council leader at the first council meeting of 2014.

Newly selected Mayor Phil Tsunoda will be sworn in at the Jan. 8 meeting, officials said. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Aliso Viejo City Hall, 12 Journey.

The public is welcome to attend.

Aliso Niguel High School Associated Student Body president Alec Ferreira, senior class president Kyle Koivuniemi, junior class president Sarah Zia, sophomore class president Callie Ferreira, and freshman class president Quinn Darling will officiate the ceremonial Oath of Office swearing-in to Tsunoda, officials said.

Council Member Carmen Cave will be recognized for her contributions as mayor during the meeting. Certificates of recognition from several south Orange County legislative elected officials will be presented to Cave as well as a gavel plaque and other tokens of appreciation for her service in 2013, officials said.

The meeting will also include Tsunoda's 2014 "Mayor's Message," which will highlight his goals and thoughts for the upcoming year, according to organizers.
